Currie Park: Celebrate 150 Years with theatre, music and old-fashioned games
Saturday 23 November
12 noon – 3.30pm
58 Weir Street Euroa Vic 3666

Currie Park will showcase the best of the retirement village and the Euroa community at its open day.

Starting with a traditional smoking ceremony, formalities and the burial of a time capsule, Currie Park’s celebration to mark 150 years of the Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria is packed with good old fashioned fun.

The Euroa Citizens’ Band will swing everyone into a festive mood, setting the scene for the afternoon. Watch out for pop up acts from the Euroa Little Theatre Group and the Euroa Ukele Band, and enjoy getting in the swing with local legend Greg Dudley.

Make sure you take part in the traditional English game of Aunt Sally in which players throw sticks or battens at a model of an old woman's head. Yes, we know it may not be ‘politically correct’ but it is a lot of fun.

Afternoon tea by the local CWA will be served in the community dining room while a BBQ will be charged for those who love a sausage sandwich. The history exhibition Beyond the Gate will introduce visitors to the bold vision of the founders of the Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria, and how local philanthropist Ian Rollo Currie followed their vision by his gift of money to establish Currie Park.

House tours will be offered during the afternoon. This is your chance to have insight into some of the original ‘tiny houses’ especially built for older people. The tours are free and limited to 10 people. Bookings are essential, and are now open.

Another highlight, among the many activities, is the chance to learn more about the wonderful Edible Garden, built with funds from the J T Reid Charitable Foundation. The garden provides vegetables for our residents. Around 100 plants will be available to buy, especially propagated by our resident green thumbs.

Parking is at Currie Park via Boundary Road South.
